On Sunday, December 11, 2022, The Ministry of Science and Technology – BARMM, headed by its minister, the Honorable Engr. Aida M. Silongan, entered into an agreement with Samporna Trading Corporation headed by Datu Jihad Canoy Abbas. Datu Abbas is also the Vice President for corporate affairs of the Bangsa Moro Federal Business Council, Inc. (BFBCI).
Based on the agreement, Samporna Trading Corporation is to conduct a project entitled “FEASIBILITY STUDY ON USING A CLOUD-BASED TOOL FOR KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE ON LOCAL SCALE FLOOD RISK”. This project aims to inform local residents on the risk of flooding while educating landowners and farmers about the risk of runoff from the agricultural landscape; a prototype tool will be developed. To take into consideration the needs, preferences, and capacities of different stakeholders, it will be developed iteratively. By combining cloud-based services, regional catchment datasets, a hydrological model, and unique visualization capabilities, the prototype tool investigates real-time hydrometric data and the influence of flood risk brought on by impending land use changes.
The pilot tool will be created and tested using agile development techniques. In order to identify common environmental issues and think about potential management approaches, it will bring together scientists (from various professions), communities, and catchment managers. It provides interpretive data, modeling capabilities, and data visualizations that can improve environmental understanding and foster interaction among different interest groups.
